The Wanderlust Hostel: Recuperating Days

Wanderlust-0020The Wanderlust Hostel in Gunnison, Colorado is a nice place to stay with a real homey feeling. The staff was also amazing, and at the time I wasWanderlust-0011 there all the guests were equally amazing. The hostel has a full kitchen available for use and a nice dining room: where you can swap stories and get to know your hostel roommates. They also have a comfortable common area with couches, a cozy fireplace, TV, and a great movie selection. They decorated the Hostel with vibrant colors and the back yard is a great place to relax, it was filled with colorful murals. Dogs are welcome outside, I had fun playing with them. Though I arrived after the slopes were closed it would be a great place to stay for a Ski Vacation. It is also conveniently located to many natural beauties, providing many opportunities for outdoor recreation. They offer shared and private rooms. The Wanderlust Hostel quickly made the list of one of my favorite hostels I have visited. It is well worth a stay whether you are passing through or looking for a getaway destination.

Wanderlust-0016I originally planned on only staying for one night and ended up staying for three. The first day I was there I sat around doing nothing but editing photos, writing, and watching movies. During the course of my trip I had forgotten how nice it is to do absolutely nothing. Since departing on my journey I have always been on the go, rushing to find my next adventure. If I found none I would be on my way to a new destination. The second day there I drove to Black Canyon National Park. Nothing too exciting happened there but I spent my day enjoying the beautiful scenery. While driving down into the canyon I pulled off when I saw three deer swimming across the river. As I got out of my car to take some photos, they spotted me and started swimming back across, giving me a little more time to capture the moment.

It was nearing dark as I drove back to the hostel, keep in mind my car is packed full. A heard of antelope were crossing the road only a couple miles from “home”. I didn’t see them until I was past stopping distance; I Wanderlust-1slammed on the brakes, laid on the horn, and fish tailed. Luck struck and thankfully they didn’t. A box of books, other random objects, and unused colored pencils which became unboxed midair flew at the back of my head. I skid down the road at an angle and missed all the antelope. There were at least thirty of them in or adjacent to the road; all of which managed to jump the right way to avoid being stuck by my car.

Wanderlust-0450Once I made it safely back to the hostel I cooked dinner and enjoyed conversation with the rest of the hostel guest. I also met a two genetics researchers and got invited into the field the following day. Scientist for the Day: Boechera Stricta
