The Results Are In...This is What Educators Had to Say About Lysol® Minilabs Science Kit #2

As you may know, GIANT and Lysol® partnered to create a series of three Minilabs Science Kits that were donated and shipped to over 2,000 Title 1 schools throughout the 2024-2025. The kits were implemented as part of Lysol®’s Here For Healthy Schools program. Last August, we made the announcement at a very special press event with Keegan-Michael Key!

These kits were co-designed by both educators and families. Their input heavily influenced the activities, work-flow, and efficiency of the kits. We would like to thank all of those who helped us out. Your input is what helped to bring these kits to life!

A few months ago we reported on teachers’ feedback for kit #1, but now we are excited to share the results from kit #2! This time, we had 381 teachers provide feedback. All in all, teachers reported that the Lysol® Minilabs program was a massive success, fostering enthusiasm for science, learning about microbes, hygiene awareness, and behavioral improvements. Overall, teachers said there is a very high likelihood (9.33/10) of implementing the kit again in the next academic year. We achieved an NPS of 75 for Lysol® Minilabs Kit #2. NPS above 70 is considered excellent. We are so proud of these kits and so happy to know that they are being enjoyed by educators and their students!

So without further ado, is how kit #2 has impacted students’ understanding and education on the topic of hygiene, according to teachers:

Impact on students’ knowledge

A very high percentage of teachers who have implemented at least parts of kit #1 and/or kit#2 reported improvement in their students’ knowledge!

98% of teachers reported that "Lysol® Minilabs Kits helped their students learn about the immune system”

Kit #2 incorporated a take-home activity where students were prompted to make a thumb war game, in which an antibody and a bad microbe are fighting each other!

82% of teachers reported that "Lysol® Minilabs Kits helped their students to learn about the engineering design cycle

Lesson #3 of kit #2 was optional, but many teachers incorporated it! The lesson was all about prompting students to design and build prototypes of inventions that could help stop the spread of germs and illnesses!

99.7% of teachers reported that "Lysol® Minilabs Kits helped their students to learn about good hygiene practices.

Just like in kit #1, slides in lesson plans reinforced the idea that good hygiene is essential to staying healthy!

Impact on students’ attitudes

A very high percentage of teachers who have implemented at least parts of kit #1 and/or kit#2 reported improvement in their students’ attitudes!

91% of teachers reported, "after implementing Lysol® Minilabs Kits, I noticed my students are interested in learning about their bodies' immune system."

Kit #2 incorporated a super fun x-ray activity in which students were given the image of a child and then used acetate sheets to look at the child’s organs and find bad microbes, good microbes, and antibodies!

78% of teachers reported, "after implementing Lysol® Minilabs Kits, I noticed my students are interested in engineering design and invention."

Lesson #2 told the story of the planet “Gubby Pubs” which is populated solely by cats, and they’re all getting sick! Students were prompted to come up with a hypothesis on why the cats are getting sick, and then brainstorm inventions to help the cats solve the health crisis.

96% of teachers reported, "after implementing Lysol® Minilabs Kits, I noticed my students think it’s important to practice healthy habits like washing hands."

Just like in kit #1, the vast majority of teachers reported that students were more aware and more proactive about hand-washing!

Impact on students’ behavior

A high percentage of teachers who have implemented the full kits or parts of the kits reported improvement in their students’ behavior!

92% of teachers reported that "after implementing Lysol® Minilabs Kits, my students are more likely to cover their nose and mouth when sneezing or coughing"

The “Gubby Pubs” scenario and the knowledge of how fast illnesses and bad microbes can spread reinforced the habit of students covering their noses and mouths when coughing!

82% of teachers reported that "after implementing Lysol® Minilabs Kits, my students are more likely to avoid putting dirty things (like pencils or toys) in their mouths."

There are reminders throughout the slides about how easy it is for bad microbes to enter the body!

92% of teachers reported that "after implementing Lysol® Minilabs Kits, my students wash their hands with soap and water more frequently throughout the day"

Kit #1 really emphasized the importance of hand-washing, and kit #2 expanded upon that going more into detail on what goes on in your body if you do not wash your hands! One teacher said “My students are always reminding each other when something is likely to have lots of germs. I hear more conversations about germs and trying to avoid getting sick.”

We would like to thank all of the educators that provided feedback for kit #2. Kit #3 is currently being implemented in schools, and we cannot wait to hear your thoughts! In addition, we would also like to thank the educators and families that participated in our co-design sessions. These kits are particularly impactful because of their input that we incorporated and took into consideration throughout the design phases. From families and educators co-designing with before launch to teachers providing feedback as they implement their kits, we are so grateful.
